These Are The Most Comfortable Items To Wear Now and Later

6 min read by  •  Time Visited: November 2020

Over the past few years, I’ve been trying to focus on buying versatile, staple pieces to add to my wardrobe. With incredible great deals online right now, I thought it would be fun to share my absolute favorites. These items are comfortable enough to wear at home now while also being perfectly suitable to wear later for at least one of the following occasions: traveling, going into the office, workout classes, going out to dinner, or running errands. I’ve gotten SO much wear out of them and own multiple colors (mostly neutrals) too!

J. Crew & J. Crew Factory Sweater Blazers

When I was working in the office, I wore these at least once a week. They’re so comfortable and look more polished than a slouchy cardigan thanks to the structure and collar detail. The pockets also came in handy more than few times to put my phone while I was carrying my laptop and water bottle to a meeting. In the J. Crew Sophie Blazer, I own the heather khaki (camel) color in an XS. My usual size is M, so I highly suggest sizing down at least one size if not two depending on what you plan to layer underneath. I have a J. Crew Factory version in heather charcoal (dark grey) that is no longer available, but oddly enough, that one was true to size (Medium). The Long Open Sweater-Jacket is similar. Lastly, I also own the Vanessa Sweater-Jacket in Black, which is the factory version of the Juliette Collarless Sweater-Blazer. I wear a Small in this. The sizing is odd, so I recommend following the reviews. In total I own three, but I’m eyeing some of the new shades for fall as well as the light grey and navy. Never buy any of these full price because they always have sales.

Bobeau High/Low Jersey Cardigan

I own this in black and it’s perfect for lounging, keeping at your desk chair, and traveling. It’s super soft and cozy without being too warm. Because of the jersey material, it doesn’t wrinkle and is flattering to wear; never clingy. The high/low style also makes it a great pairing with leggings.

Barefoot Dreams Cardigans

I’ll let the reviews speak for themselves, but Barefoot Dreams has the most dreamy material I’ve ever experienced. I’ve owned a couple cardigans and their fuzzy socks, but people go crazy over their blankets and robes too. My personal favorite is the CozyChic Lite version because I usually run hot, and the normal version is very warm. I own it in a great marled taupe shade that isn’t currently available, but there are some that are similar. I recommend checking these out in person at Nordstrom if you can to pick out one that looks less like a robe material and more of one that you can acceptably wear out, if you care about that, haha! The best sales on Barefoot Dreams are during the Nordstrom Anniversary Sale in July/August.

Zella Splits Ribbed Tank

This tank is the best I’ve found for working out or lounging – I own four colors and counting! It’s pretty much all I wear at home in quarantine if I’m not wearing pajamas. It’s not too short, not too long, not too flowy, not too tight, not too sheer and extremely soft! It also washes really well. It’s Nordstrom’s own workout line, so you won’t find it anywhere else. I bought two colors during the 2019 Anniversary sale and two more during this Anniversary sale. It looks like they’re part of the permanent Zella collection now since they’re still available. Sizing wise I own them in small and medium, and honestly I can hardly tell the difference.

Lou & Grey Signaturesoft Plush Upstate Sweatpants

These are the best sweatpants ever, and if you’ve never touched them, you’re missing out! I own them in black and navy in a size S. I got mine at Loft but Nordstrom carries them as well. I kid you not, I have worn these on almost every flight over 3 hours. I won’t travel without them! They pretty much saved me on my 28-hour flight journey returning home from Singapore with the flu. The Signaturesoft line also has sweatshirts to match, and have more recently come out with shorts and more.

Nordstrom Moonlight Pajamas

These are dupes for the Eberjey pajamas and are so well made for being half the price! I own three sets to-date – two of the short sleeve top and shorts sets, and one of the short sleeve top and crop pants sets, which are petite-friendly! For reference, I’m about 5’3″-5’4″ with short legs. They are my favorite pajamas I’ve ever owned and really soft. Plus, they look nice if your visiting friends or family. I own them in S and M but I prefer the S, so I’d say size down.

Lululemon Align Leggings

I refused to buy these for the longest time, but eventually gave in. Honestly, I think they’re worth the hype. I don’t think they are necessary as they are way too expensive for leggings, but I just haven’t been able to find any that compare. I wouldn’t wear them for a cardio or HIIT workout by any means, but they’re amazing for lighter workouts like yoga, lounging, and traveling. The waistband never ever rolls down, and doesn’t leave you with lines all over your stomach. The material is really soft in a non-athletic/swishy way. Somehow they are not restrictive at all, yet keep their shape. They have multiple styles and colors now, but sadly rarely go on sale. Although a very different material, the closest I’ve found is by Everlane.

True & Co Bras

This brand took the world by storm this year with everyone working from home. They’re supportive enough and super comfortable when you want to feel like you’re still wearing pajamas, or to even wear under pajamas when you’re with family and friends. I also love that they are seamless under clothes, because no one likes a visible bra line under a shirt. I own a few different styles, so find what works best for you! They are sold on their own website as well as Target and Nordstrom.

Birdies Flats in The Starling

These are the most comfortable flats I’ve ever found. They feel like slippers – truly like walking on clouds. I wore them all the time for work, especially at events where I was on my feet for hours, and love them for traveling and running errands too. I own the latte suede and just picked up the taupe leather for $95 on Black Friday. It’s only a matter of time until I pick up the black and brown! They never once gave me a blister, are not squeaky when you walk (the worst!), and have held up really well. Worth every penny. They rarely go on sale, so definitely snag them when they are. Fortunately, they offer free shipping and free returns, so it can’t hurt to try them out! I wear my usual size 8.

Adidas Ultraboost Sneakers

These have been extremely highly rated for years, and I finally gave in recently when I found them on sale in black. They are the most supportive sneakers I’ve ever owned! The arch support and cushioned insoles are amazing, as well as the cushioning around the foot and ankle. For working out, moving, running through airports or exploring the sites while traveling, these are worth it! They come in men’s and women’s in a few different variations of the original. Again, I wear my usual size 8.
